Aiayu Creatives
- The Exhibition

Launching during the annual design event - 3daysofdesign - the grand finale of our Aiayu Creatives campaign is now on display at The Aiayu Market in Nordhavn. Drop by to view the impressive pieces, learn the stories behind them, and get to know the artists - and aiayu - a little better. From Sept. 16 - Sept. 18, 2021.

In the beautiful setting of the Aiayu Market, we are proud to introduce the ‘Aiayu Creatives’ project. As a dedication to the beauty of natural fibers, we invited a small cohort of creative people we admire to each interpret the story behind one of our natural materials: eri silk, llama, and sartuul wool.

Launching during 3daysofdesign, the project’s exhibition is an impressive showcase of our responsible materials through artistry and craftsmanship – both disciplines that we care deeply about, and want to provide a platform for.

The exhibition takes you through three very different interpretations of our materials. By expertly merging their own crafts and backgrounds with our universe, the creatives take the observer through a process that is both tactile, vivid, and moving. Read more about the individual works below.

Aiayu Eri Silk by Atelier Axo

Flags of Samia Ricini

Atelier Axo is a cross-disciplinary design and architecture studio founded by Rose Hermansen and Caroline Sillesen. Their final piece is called Flags of Samia Ricini: a spacious installation that takes the observer through the creation of peace silk.

The installation consists of four sets of caster plastings and flags. Each casting represents a separate stage of the silk-making process and is placed on pedestals of sturdy oak wood, making for a tactile experience. Waving above each casting is a soft, flowy silk flag, representing the finished silk product.

Aiayu Llama by Wilma Nawara

The Herd Vases

Wilma Nawara is a Copenhagen based ceramicist originally from the Netherlands. Wilma interpreted Aiayu’s llama wool, materializing it into an installation of vases representing a herd of llamas.

Inspired by graceful llamas roaming free in the Bolivian highlands, the Herd Vases are made of different stoneware and stoneware blends. This to create a range of colours showcasing the natural and raw look of the clay, representing the diverse beauty of the llama’s natural shades.

Sartuul Wool by Sia Hurtigkarl Degel

The Green Gold Baskets

Sia Hurtigkarl Degel is a Copenhagen based designer with an MA in design from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and a BA from Eindhoven Design Academy (NL). For this project, Sia chose to interpret sartuul wool, materializing Aiayu’s collaboration with the Green Gold Project in Mongolia.

‘The Green Gold Baskets’ visually depict the Green Gold Project’s positive impact on the grasslands in Mongolia, symbolized through the basket’s ombre transformation from yellow to green.
