The textile industry is known for its abundant use of materials and waste. Typically, the process of making textiles and garments leads to leftover cuttings from production. Fabrics in a slightly wrong colour or clothing from a cancelled order. The amount of waste as a result can be immense.

At Aiayu we go to great lengths to avoid waste in our own production. In fact, we have established a zero waste programme in India for all our cotton products, where we recycle leftover cuttings and fabrics and use them to make small items like our tote bags and hang tags – as well as larger designs, such as our Raw Quilts and Raw Rugs.

A percentage of the profit from this programme is donated to a local school for challenged children in Agra, India called TEARS: Train, Educate and Rehabilitate Socially. It reflects our desire to give back to the country where our products originate. To demonstrate our respect for their people, their society and the environment at large.
With this in mind, we created our Aiayu organic cotton line.
