Kirk wool scarf

A classic scarf finished in an exaggerated rib knit. Kirk is made from 100% yak wool that is luxuriously soft and warm. Sourced from the yak goats of Nepal and produced by local craftspeople in our small Kathmandu workshop, this piece comes in a gentle, undyed color palette that is completely natural – emphasizing the versatility and depth of the exclusive fiber.

100% yak wool from the Mongolian steppe. The fiber is sourced from the “Green Gold” project, a Swiss development program which organises cooperatives of nomadic herders in the Mongolian grasslands. The project helps herders preserve their traditional way of life through artisanal fiber production of heritage Mongolian breeds.

Yak wool is exceptionally soft and durable, with a delicate surface that is especially suitable for sensitive skin. We exclusively use the finest and softest fiber from the yak’s undercoat. When treated properly, the fibers can feel as soft as cashmere, yet act as strong and warm as llama wool.

Washing is not always necessary and it is hard on your garment and on the environment. Yak wool is a self cleaning fiber that requires less washing than other materials. To save resources, simply air your garment for a fresh start.

However, if you do wish to wash your garment, we recommend hand wash, 30 degrees, using high quality wool soap such as Eucalan or Sonett. Let the garment soak in water for 10-15 min. Rinse in 30 degree water. Avoid twisting, pressing or squeezing the water out and let the garment dry flat. Steam on medium temperature for a nice finish.

If you have a very gentle washing machine it is possible to wash your Aiayu garment in the machine on a wool program 30 degrees, low cycle. However washing in the machine is at ones own risk, as we cannot guarantee the individual program settings on washing machines.
